What is a Gym Athlete?
OK, lets take a look at what a gym athlete is not first. A gym athlete is not a gym member. He or she is so much more than that. Turning up at a gym, plodding along aimlessly, no direction, no motivation and real idea how to train effectively is most definitely what a gym athlete is not.
But, if the above sounds familiar then you may well want to change direction. Maybe try something a little different? Somewhere where each visit to the gym is rewarding, fulfilling and take away with you a real sense of achievement on each visit! Is that really possible? Yes is the answer and here lies the real difference between gym member and gym athlete.
The benefits of being a gym athlete
Increased motivation
Different muscle groups actively engaged
More calories burned per visit
Understanding more about you
Challenging
Interesting
Varying
let’s stop there shall we and just reflect on how you see each visit to the gym? Does it tick any of the above criteria? Even half of them? And on each visit! That is what a gym athlete does. That is why he or she thinks gyms are quite good value for money. And why when it comes to results, you just can’t argue with what is written down one month and improved on the next.
Ok lets look at the clincher. A gym athlete is motivated by results alone. Not weight loss. Weight loss is easy. Weight loss is a direct result of food intake and good food nutrition and losing weight does not make you fit. You don’t even have to go to a gym to lose weight. You just need to control what eat because the less body fat you have ultimately the better you are to perform.
And that’s it – so if you lose weight you can perform better in fitness, or more to the point where being a gym athlete is concerned ‘gym-fitness’. Continued exercise combined with good nutrition will be far better than weight loss alone. But you need results to focus on and maintain to enhance your weight loss otherwise the weight will creep back on in a nastier and more vicious fashion – the body has a good memory where storing fat is concerned.
